In 1985, INFOPECHE, was established and executed as a project by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). Its mandate included providing marketing information, and cooperation services for fishery products in Africa. In 1991, at the request of its member countries, INFOPECHE was established as the Intergovernmental Organization for Marketing Information and Cooperation Service for Fishery Products in Africa.
The FISH INFOnetwork supplies timely, accurate and unbiased information on international fish markets and fish trade to FAO member countries, governmental agencies, universities, research institutions, private companies and individuals. The Network is co-ordinated by GLOBEFISH at FAO headquarters in Rome.
